What Is Taiwan Dong Ding Oolong Tea?

For a long time, the name Dong Ding Oolong is almost synonymous with Taiwan Oolong tea.

It is a name traditionally used for medium oxidised, medium roasted tea leaves grown around Lugu's Dong Ding Mountain, around 700 m in altitude.

As one of the four oldest tea regions in Taiwan, Dong Ding Oolong tea originally came from tea farms in Jhangya, Yonglong and Fonghuang villages in Lugu.

It has since expanded to most of the villages in Lugu Township, Nantou.

The unique soil around Dong Ding Mountain coupled with more mature tea leaves, longer periods of withering and stirring processes contribute to the distinct Dong Ding Oolong tea flavour.

My first Dong Ding

My first Dong Ding oolong and it is very smooth. It takes a few steeps to unroll but each one is different and you can taste the flavors coming out with.

Just the way I like it

The brew is light yellow with only a hint of green. It has a hint of butter and a creamy, heavy mouthfeel. Just the way I like it.

Very earthy oolong

The flavor of this oolong is very earthy, with a deep almost roasted vegetable flavor. Definitely a little buttery, and if you swirl the tea around in your mouth a little bit, a light fruitiness starts to show through the buttery vegetables. It's a very interesting, flavorful tea that I'm glad to have experienced.

Much better than tea bags

After trying Dong Ding Oolong from ToDoTea, I suddenly discovered a whole new dimension to drinking Taiwan tea. The full body flavor of the tea brew is so much better than the tea bags. Never going back to the tea bags ever again.

Glad that you like this. The loose leaf tea certainly brings more lasting flavor than tea bags.

Lasts several infusions

I fixed myself a pot of this tea mid-day and enjoyed the full bodied finishing immensely.
